O’Donovan Rossa GAA was founded in 2018 by Gaels located in Astoria, Queens with the goal of providing a community focused club, based on the traditional parish club that is the bedrock of the association, while honoring the ideals and memory of long time New York resident, the esteemed Fenian revolutionary: Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa. O’Donovan Rossa spent many grueling years in English prisons for his Fenian activities. After an amnesty and exile, Rossa continued to push for the cause of Irish independence from his new home in New York.
The O’Donovan Rossa GAA club is heavily involved in the Irish community throughout NYC with both the club and individual members making significant contributions to the GAA scene, Irish ceol scene as well as getting involved in multiple fundraising initiatives to help our less fortunate exiled brothers and sisters.
